Orange Wednesdays
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Orange Wednesdays refers to the two-for-one cinema tickets offer that is available to residents of the UK on Wednesdays. It allows users to buy two cinema tickets for the price of one at most cinemas across the country.
Orange Wednesdays was introduced on 31 March 2004 to combat the falling numbers of people who attended the cinema on weekdays, and is sponsored by telecommunications company Orange. The promotion has been a success for both Orange and the UK cinema market with a substantial increase in subscribers to Orange and cinemas now making their highest ticket sales on Wednesdays.
[edit] Advertising Campaign
The advert campaign for the promotion in the UK became very popular and is frequently shown in cinemas before films. Celebrities like Carrie Fisher, Steven Segal, Michael Madsen and Patrick Swayze have appeared in the advertisements.
[edit] How to participate
To obtain a ticket for this promotion, the word 'film' must be texted to 241 or the number should be phoned from a mobile phone on the Orange network. The user is sent a 'text ticket' (a unique 8-digit code) as a reply which should be shown at the cinema box office when the movie tickets are purchased.
