OBE TV (Original Black Entertainment TV) was launched in September 2004. It shows film, food, advertisements, sports and talk shows as well as church service programmes. The channel is aimed at black audiences, and shows programmes from South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana. Its programmes are primarily taken from the South African Broadcasting Corporation (the SABC's news broadcasts are shown frequently), but it does broadcast Nollywood productions.
Like the similar BEN Television, it operates on a very low budget with indifferent technical quality. Quite a proportion of its programming is culled from DVD releases by companies such as Gallo Music Vision, and it currently does not produce any original programming (excluding "OBE TV Notice Board", a five-minute slot).
