Perhaps the most interesting fact about the heritage of Ormond by the Sea is that it has been intensely preserved over a long lineage of pirates and smugglers who settled in the area long before Florida was adopted as a state.
Locals are both prideful and protective of their land, often banning together to ward off developers who threaten to destroy their beachside community. Residents are born, raised and die in Ormond by the Sea, raising new generations in steadfast values and a unique culture that seems to be unchanged by the influx of mega corporations, wealthy developers and snow birds who attempt to adopt her lifestyle. However, these daring pioneers often find that the untamable essence of the OBC, the wildness of nature both her inhabitants and climate alike bring, wards off those who are not true "chillers". Unwilling to adapt to the changing times, the OBC remains today as it were hundreds of years ago.
The surfers of the early 80's North Shore Gang are still alive and well, sold out to the life of OBC, and can be found raising a new generation of OBC Crustaceans to ride the line.
