[edit] Professional career
Thompson was signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in April 2005. Despite playing defensive tackle in college, he was converted to the offensive line with the Dolphins. He was waived on August 30, 2005 and was subsequently signed to the team's practice squad, where he spent the entire season.
In 2006, Thompson was allocated to NFL Europa by the Dolphins but was unable to play due to injury. He was once again released following training camp and re-signed to the practice squad. He was released some time later and added to the practice squad of the Green Bay Packers, where he spent the rest of the season.
On January 2, 2007 it was announced that the Packers signed Thompson to a future contract.
