Pacha Khan

Pacha Khan is an Afghan leader.
Pacha Khan Zadran is an Afghan Pashtun leader who hails from the Zadran tribe of Paktiya Province of Afghanistan.
During the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989, he played an active role in the Afghan resistance against the Red Army.
He has a considerable tribal support in his area, close to Khost and Gardez.
During the September 2005 Parliamentary Elections in Afghanistan, Pacha Khan Zadran won a seat in the Wolesi Jirgah (Lower House).

An alleged association to Pacha Khan is one of the justifications for the continued detention of a number of Guantanamo captives.[1][2][3][4] All of the Guantanamo captives, whose continued detention was justified by an association with Pacha Khan, were captured prior to the United States deciding that Pacha Khan was a renegade.
[edit] Khandan Kadir's alleged relationship with Pacha Khan
According to the allegations he faced during his Combatant Status Review Tribunal Khandan Kadir was captured on September 20, 2002.[4] He testified he and Pacha Khan were rivals, and enemies; that his capture was due to a false denunciation, from Pacha Khan, and that Pacha Khan continued to enjoy American confidence for several more months. He based this guess on the date at which Pacha Khan's nephew, and assistant, Jan Baz arrived at the Bagram Airfield detention facility.
[edit] January 2002 captures in Zana Khul
Mohammad Gul, Khan Zaman, Gul Zaman, Abib Sarajuddin were all captured in January 2002, when American forces came to the village of Zana Khul.[1][2][3] The Zana Khul villagers all assert that Pacha Khan had contacted one of their tribal elders, Nasim Khan, trying to rally support for an uprising against the Taliban, just prior to the American overthrow of the Taliban. The tribal elders then told Abib Sarajuddin to rally men of military age from Zana Khul, and four nearby villages. They assert that Pacha Khan was subsequently appointed to be the governor of their region by the new Afghan government.
The allegations against the villagers assert that Pacha Khan was a renegade, who was fighting against Hamid Karzai's government.[1][3] The American allegation in the Summary of Evidence against those villagers said:
- "Pacha Khan, a renegade Pashtun Commander, has been conducting military operations against the Afghan Transitional Administration (ATA) and coalition forces."
