Pako Ayestaran

Pako Ayestaran (born May 2, 1963 in Spain) is as of the current 2006-2007 season, the Assistant Manager of the Liverpool Football Club He moved to Anfield with Rafael Benitez, Liverpool's manager in 2004. However he started his career as a physiotherapist.
Ayestaran has worked with Benitez since their time together at F.C. Tenerife and is instrumental in planning daily training at Melwood, Liverpool's training ground, and organising the physical work and fitness training of the team.
His philosophy when it comes to putting players through their paces is "Training is very important, I think that no matter how fit players think they are, the same eleven can't play every game. For me, training is the most important thing. It is our job to make the players understand how important the training is and sometimes players come to me and say that they have played too much and need to train. When they say this, you know they truly understand."
He has also worked at Valencia, where he won two Spanish La Liga titles alongside Benitez.
