Patrick "Pat" Karns (Born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota) is the Head Athletic Trainer for the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL.

Pat Karns received his B.Sc degree in psychology from St. Cloud State University in 1983 and his MA in physical education from Northern Colorado University in 1984.
[edit] Beginings as a trainer
He returned to St. Cloud State as head athletic trainer from 1987-92, working primarily with the Huskies' football and ice hockey teams.

In 1993, Karns became assistant athletic trainer for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves.

He became the head athletic trainer for the Denver Grizzlies of the International Hockey League in 1994, and accepted the Avalanche's top post during their inaugural campaign in 1995.
He won the Turner Cup Champiosnship in 1995. He has won 2 Stanley Cup championships with Colorado in 1996 and 2001. Served on the United States Olympic Medical Staff for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He regularly volunteers his medical expertise to the Special Olympics of Minnesota, Star of the North Games, and International Special Olympics. Pat and his wife, Pamela, reside in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, with their daughter, Koneta, and son, Michael.
