[edit] Residence Buildings
Paton College consists of ten buildings or residences where students can live as they attend school:
- Barnes
- Blackall
- Bowater
- Burke
- Coughlan
- Curtis
- Doyle
- Hatcher
- Rothermere
- Squires
Each residence can house up to 100 people at once, and students have the choice of living in either female or co-ed gendered houses.
Residents can live in double or single rooms, with shared bathrooms on each floor. Each building has a TV room, a laundry room, a study room, a computer room, a lobby, and a trunk room for storage. Meals are provided from a central dining hall, known as R. Gushue Hall.
[edit] House Staff
Every house is essentially run by several people who live in it. These people are there to both enforce residence rules and ensure that a student's residence experience runs as smoothly as possible.
The houses each have a proctor, who lives in an apartment in the residence and is the senior representative of the university in the house. He or she is responsible for various administrative duties such as room assignments and discipline, and can be referred to if students have problems that their resident assistants cannot solve.
A resident assistant or RA lives on each floor of a house. While RA's have several duties, they are mainly present to help students adjust to residence.
Also, each residence has an academic don or AD who is there to help students with questions regarding their academics. The AD is responsible for hiring free house tutors and is knowledgeable about Memorial University's academic programs.
Also Student housing has a Residence Life office where you will find a Manager of Residence Life, A residence life officer (who has resided in Paton College for 16 Years) and a Community Living Programmer.
[edit] House Executive
Within each house, a group of executives is hired each year, consisting of a president, vice president, treasurer and social chair. The exec promote house spirit and are responsible for organizing house events and for representing the students of their house to housing administration and the university.
