From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Patrick Francis Maitland, 17th Earl of Lauderdale (born 17 March 1911) is a British Conservative politician.
He was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Lanark in 1951, after its previous MP (and future Prime Minister) Alec Douglas-Home was disqualified after succeeding to his father's peerage. Maitland held the seat until 1959 when it was taken by Labour candidate Judith Hart. Maitland has been the Earl of Lauderdale since 1968. He is the third oldest living person to have served as a British Member of Parliament, exceeded only by Bert Hazell and Lord Renton.
His daughter, Lady Olga Maitland, also became a prominent politician and Conservative Member of Parliament.
