Talk:Pat Metheny Group
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ok, Lets rewrite it all. But, I noticed that Richard Bona is being listed as a current member from PMG, and he is not at PMG anymore. --MarceloNunesPOA 11:16, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
I have added Nando Lauria as a member of the PMG. For the instruments he plays I used exactaly the same instruments description that are presented on the The Way Up Live DVD. Later I intend to write an article about Nando too. --MarceloNunesPOA 17:44, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
I have put back part of the text that Wik deleted, not the fantalk but much of the history sections, which I have tried to NPOV and trim a little. Needs more editing, formatting, and fact-checking as I may have cut away too much or too little. Kosebamse 12:39, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for re-construction. Your re-writing makes sense to me, I'm fine with that.
- However the second paragraph is not relevant to an account for the PMG and the group projects differ vastly and distinctly from the "side" projects. Group members have rarely been involved in side projects except for "Secret Story" or "Wichita". So I cut this paragraph out.
- The peak of commercial success was not the First Circle period "Still Life" and "Letter from home" were - in equal numbers - the most sold albums of the PMG (according to Lyle Mays).
- A minor fix is that Metheny is not Metheney ;-) I will think about the "success of the pmg" paragraph. The "honesty" part, which refelcts the "Kenny G." debate ought to be moved to Pat Metheny, the "marketing" seems still a point to me - let's see how it can be written.
- But again - thanks for your re-editing the article in better way it previously was.

What exactly was "fan talk" and can we have an account by Wik about his motives to delete more or less the whole page?
Jost ammon 01:42, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Pretty much all of it was fan talk. This has to be rewritten in a neutral way or it has to go. --Wik 02:02, Apr 24, 2004 (UTC)
I repeat my question: What exactly was fan talk? Jost ammon 02:04, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Things like "all musicians of the PMG aspire to offer the best they can give, and always the quid beyond, and in all success they all remain humble servants of their higher goals", the entire article went like that. --Wik 02:07, Apr 24, 2004 (UTC)
Though you may have a point I'm not ok with your erasing the whole text without doing the slightest effort to trim it. At the core of the passage you refer to is the "Kenny G." debate which has stirred up a broad discussion in musical circles as well as in the press and which has nothing to do with fantalk. The question is if this point isn't better dealt with in the Pat Metheny article, maybe.
Another point is the "PMG success". Trying to get a grip on what has made the PMG a - for a jazz band - considerably successful venture is no fantalk. Give suggestions to fade the "fan" tone if you think it is there. Jost ammon 02:17, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Um, gentlepeople, feel free to continue to discuss whether it's better to delete or rewrite when you don't like an article, but note that the article in question has been pretty much fixed. Jgm 02:50, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Sure, cf what I replied to Kosebamse, top of this page. The re-written entry seems better now, even to me ;-) Jost ammon 02:59, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Rewrite Needed
It appears to me that this article has simply been lifted from the Pat Metheny one (or perhaps it's the other way around?) I cannot find even the slightest variation. Needs total rewrite. Darkhorse82 03:24, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- I am willing to initiate a rewrite. Most of the information in the Pat Metheny article is about PMG, not Pat Metheny specifically. I would like to bring all of that over here to merge and clean it up. If anyone has ideas, please comment here. I will probably start in several weeks if there are no opposing comments. — Mperry 19:19, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- I am willing to help with whatever needs to be done. I will research his life and come up with material that should be just about Pat Metheny. Contact me with any other ideas or tasks that I can help with. — ninjawailer 1:25, 9 February 2006 (PST)
- I am not clear what significant problems exist with the PMG page--other than a few tweaks here or there, it's a pretty good summary of the band's history. As everyone else above has noted, a re-write is desperately needed on the Pat Metheny page. — Martin Monkman 04:27, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
