Pelican case
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pelican cases are molded plastic containers that seal perfectly, with an airtight and watertight gasket. Pelican cases include a barometric relief valve made in gore-tex to prevent barotrauma to the case, during transportation, or when the air pressure in the environment may change.
Most Pelican cases comply with US Military, NATO, IEC, and ATA standards for waterproofing, stacking, impact, and durability. Standards that Pelican cases comply with include MIL-STD C4150-J for waterproofing, IEC IP 67 rating indicating complete sealing against dust and sealing against water immersion to 1 meter, as well as ATA 300 rating indicating compliance with Air Transport Association standards for durability in shipping.

[edit] Water leakage through barometric relief valve
If the case falls into a river, generally, if there is not too much contents, there will be enough air in the case to keep it afloat. The barometric relief valve is made of gore-tex which is a hydrophobic membrane. It permits air to pass through but not water or other liquids including acids. Under some extreme conditions leakage is technically possible, but such conditions are unlikely to be encountered, except in the case of deliberate vandalism.
[edit] Lifetime Guarantee
The company boasts a lifetime guarantee for all of its products. Interestingly, it is noted on the company website[1] that this guarantee does not cover shark bite, attack by bears or children under the age of 5.
