Just saying, someone should edit the page to include some of the more advanced tricks.

but b4 we do that can we have our own section, i mean category?--JinFX HuangDi 1698 2005 October 9

Is there a need for an individual category for pen spinning? Before we do that, we should at least write more articles about pen spinning. - yxTay 07:22, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

I was think about changing the order of the Fundamentals, esp so the sonic doesnt need to refer to a section below it. --1698 08:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minor Updates

  • Pen spinning description is now available in PS disambiguation page, under the recreation section.
  • Pen Twirling and Pen twirling will now be redirected to Pen spinning.

[edit] Is the effort here?

how many ppl want to work on this? wiki is the perfect thing to collect pen spinning tricks, i hope ppl come here while UPSB is down --1698 2005 October 27 00:50 (PacificEastCoastStandardTime)

There are too many pen spinning tricks. Listing them will be too troublesome. Besides, there will be new tricks coming about with time. Listing the fundermentals are enough. - yxTay 07:44, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

actually, i just meant some expansion. it would really help the community if maybe we had some more stuff, especially the modding and some common tricks like infinity. anyway, how do i make a category for PS? --1698 2005 November 6 18:35 (PST)

What other common tricks do you want to be included? The few tricks I can think of are Infinity, BackAround and maybe NeoBackAround. Information on pen modifications? What kind of information? Tutorials? Statistics? - yxTay 07:57, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

well, i just feel like working on it. pen spinning is new to me compared to most other stuff i do... been at it for less than half a year and even though i can do the shadow i cannot do the infinity. my direction right now is to just add to the article until it there is enough to break a section off as its own article. As for mods, i guess i want to at least mention the RSVP and Dong-A Com-ssa (and the HGG?) in a new section. thnx for the feedback. --1698 2005 November 9 08:30 (UTC)

Why not the Infinity? We can break each section off into their own articles later. --1698 2006-1-10 930 (PST)

Because this is not a PS database. You might want to check out juggling and contact juggling on how it is constructed.

it might be more wikified if we break it up into more articles, and that will also provide an easier time adding more tricks if ppl dont delete them. --1698 08:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note

Sorry to say, but to whomever uses the IP address 219.74.17.133 and lives in Singapore, yes, Thumbspin is not a Fundamental trick, but INFINITY IS!!!

If I were 219.74.17.133, I would visit the Pentrix website, click on Articles, then click on Learning Order, to see WHAT FUNDAMENTAL TRICKS ARE THERE!!!

-

Infinity is NOT a fundamentals. Before you post up anything, please check with all the international sites and forums such as Pentrix, KCF, PenZone, PenstudioZ, UCPSB, UPSB, for the terminology and classification. The learning order in Pentrix is outdated. Infinity has never yet been classify as a fundamentals. Before UPSB naming committee and other respective communities declare Infinity as a fundamental, this is NOT a fundamental yet. Tohlz 21:22, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi again. I have emailed to Kam, which is the webmaster of Pentrix. He has added this note on his learning order page now.

If you visit Pentrix website now, click on Articles, and before you click on learning order, you will see this: "Note: The names of the tricks and classifications are according to the author's best attempt at the time of writing. This chart has not yet been updated to conform to official naming and categorization standards." Tohlz 00:37, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note 2

Whoever wrote "NOTE" it is just rude! Well anyways: here is my opinion I am not the one who wrote the article up there, but i am a pro spinner. It may say in Kam's website (pentrix) that thumspin is not a fundamental trick but in other countries, such as korea for example consider thumbspin AND infinity as fundamental tricks. Maybe it is because Korea is a #1 spinning country, but it is so.

-

Korea adapted to namings slightly different from many communities which includes taiwan, HK, international and etc. This is mainly due to the language barrier in the past. Same goes to the classification. In addtion, Korea has the largest population in terms of pen spinners, but that is considered local. Tohlz 21:24, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note 3

Refering back to NOTE 2 Excuse me! Do NOT consider me as KOREAN!!! That is a form of racism (in my opinion) and I have been to Kam's Pentrix site as well. I checked the learning order. Also, if the person who wrote NOTE 2 is called Joshua Ryu, then he will find himself in trouble some day.

No offense to everybody who thinks this is rude.

[edit] Note 4

Would the person who wrote most of this article kindly capitalize sentences and NOT use abbreviations like 'b4'? Sorry for all the inconvenience caused.

never thought i'd see the day PS get vandalized... anyway, this is english wikipedia, if u glance at other languages u'll notice they have different kinds of articles

lol he was talking about me in that last part... thats not part of the article, and plz to show some more respect to everyone else too--1698 06:39, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note 5

Sorry I was being a jerk.

[edit] Backaround

As per the discussion above, I've added a BackAround page. I'll probably write up some articles on other well-known tricks. --Lakerdonald 17:38, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

hey thanks for working on this subject, but it would be better to work on all the pen spinning details in PS Conclave instead of Wikipedia, it is a wiki linked to in the article. check it out. I think the concensis was to keep this article simple anyway. --1698 07:01, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
But I didn't add to this page, I made a separate page altogether and then they got cat'd under pen spinning I don't see how this goes against anything discussed in this Talk. --Lakerdonald 10:23, 6 June 2006
It doesn't, but JinFX was saying that your effort may be better spent at PSConclave (website) → Elliot (T|C|W) 19:21, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How old?

How old is pen spinning? I remember seeing it first in 1989 in South Korea. (I wasn't in Korea from 1986 to 1989, so it might be older than 17.) However, the article doesn't say. --Kjoonlee 02:58, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Nobody is really sure as the Thumbaround has been around for ages, and there is no defining point where it became a separate manipulation. The article gives the first website, and sites such as Pentix were the first to really go in depth with the tricks etc. → Elliot (T|C|W) 19:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Style of writing

Does anyone else things this has turned from an encyclopedic entry to a "how to pen spin guide"? → Elliot (T|C|W) 21:25, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

yea i think theres really no point in explaining tricks in this article anymore, it should have more about the community, application, and reception --1698 21:19, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes, and I also think that this article is written with a joking tone. Wikipediarules2221 03:45, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] German Forum Link

Do we need a link to the GPC? Maybe it belongs in the german version. But other languages do have english sites → Elliot (T|C|W) 20:49, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] what this page should be late 2006

should there really be expinations of the tricks? will a non pen spinner have any idea what it means? is there enough history and description for the article titled pen spinning? what is not cited? --1698 14:06, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't see the problem with explaining a few of the simpler tricks, as long as we don't use "numerical notation" for the fingers. It strikes me as unnecessarily complex. I have no idea about what to do for the history section that you want (I've only "spun" for about a year). As for the citations... I've taken care of a few. [edit] pop culture/cultural references?

all I can think of is Boris from the James Bond movie Goldeneye.ViperBite 01:28, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

David Letterman is an informal pencil-spinner (often seen on his show). AnonMoos 00:00, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Ha!, this article sucks--John Knife 17:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] References

This article needs to be cleaned up to be NPOV and to include references. --70.111.218.254 23:17, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wow

Wow. I want to help with this article a little, cause I'm rather amused :)-DESU 00:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] P-due

Backaround is not a utility trick so i removed it. maybe it Shoul d be in the artticle but it needs 2 be in a section 4 non-fundamental, non utilility tricks. If som1 wants to write it they can get the backaround info out of the previous versions

also infinity isnt fundamental but it's its own family of tricks--fundamentals arent tricks that all others are based off of, theyre simply the 4 most common & important tricks
