Peter, Duke of Oldenburg

Peter of Holstein-Gottorp (17 January 1755-21 May 1829) succeeded his cousin Wilhelm in 1823 so he was Duke of Oldenburg for only a short time. His son, August, or Augustus, was the first Duke of Oldenburg to use the style of Grand Duke that was granted in 1815 [1]. He was the son of Prince Georg Ludwig of Holstein-Gottorp and Sophie Charlotte of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck [2].

He married Friederike, Duchess of Württemberg on 6 June 1781 and had the following issue:
- Paul Friedrich August (13 July 1783-27 February 1853)
- Georg Peter Friedrich (9 May 1784-27 December 1812)
Paul Friedrich August succeeded his father as Grand Duke of Oldenburg, the first of the House of Holstein-Gottorp to use the elevated style.
