Peter Sweeney (born 29 September 1984 in Glasgow) is a Scottish professional football midfielder currently playing for Stoke City.
Sweeney started his career at Millwall where he made his debut in 2002 but had to wait another year for his big breakthrough when he played a major role in the Lions' route to the final of the FA Cup and started against Manchester United
In 2004 Sweeney signed for Stoke City for £250,000, but in his first match against Newcastle Town he got injured early into the game and was out for 3 months
Sweeney has been capped for Scotland at Under-21 level.
Recently in a match at the Britannia Stadium, Sweeney was brought on as a substitute, however he was substituted to make way for Adam Rooney only 20 minutes later much to Sweeney's annoyance. He then "mouthed off" at boss Tony Pulis and stormed off down the tunnel. On transfer deadline day (31/01/07) Sweeney has joined Yeovil on loan for the rest of the season, however he has been a peripheral figure since his move, with the majority of his apperances coming from the bench.
