Pink hat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pink hat is a derogatory term for an ignorant Boston Red Sox fan (usually female).
The term is in reference to the pink Sox hats typically worn by female fans, especially those who do not follow the Sox closely.[1]
Following the historic 2004 World Series victory, it became popular to declare oneself a Sox fan even if you didn't know the rules of baseball. The "pink hat brigade"[2] became evident at Fenway Park and the bars and streets of greater Boston.
Red Sox Nation does have a healthy contingent of knowledgable girls and women, and this term is not usually applied to them.
