Portland Institute for Contemporary Art
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) in Portland, Oregon was founded in 1996 by Kristy Edmunds, formerly the Director of the Portland Art Museum's "Art on the Edge" program. Edmunds left PICA in 2005 to become art director for the Melbourne International Arts Festival.
PICA specializes in contemporary performance and visual arts programming, sponsoring the annual Time-Based Art (TBA) festival each September. TBA deliberately models itself on the Edinburgh Festival, featuring a two-week program of dance, theatre, music, and other events in a specifically-constructed "party" atmosphere.
