Powhatan Beaty (8 October 1837 – 6 December 1916) was a Union Army soldier during the American Civil War and a recipient of America's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
Beaty joined the Army from Delaware County, Ohio, and by the Battle of Chaffin's Farm, on 29 September 1864, Beaty was serving as a First Sergeant in Company G of the 5th U.S. Colored Infantry Regiment. During the battle, Sergeant Beaty "[t]ook command of his company, all the officers having been killed or wounded, and gallantly led it." For these actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on 6 April 1865.
Beaty died at age 79 and was buried in Union Baptist Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
