Pragyan is the Annual Science and Technology Festival of National Institute of Technology Tiruchirapalli (NITT), Tiruchirapalli(India). Pragyan is held every January/February over a period of four days on the NIT Trichy campus. Pragyan started off on in a grand fashion in 2005 with the aim of providing a common podium for students from all over the country and abroad to exhibit their technical prowess. Pragyan also provides a forum for students to interact with prominent technocrats, scientists and industrialists. Pragyan achieved International status in its second year itself with teams from countries like Germany, Russia, USA and France participating in the festival. Apart from that, Pragyan also sees participation from over 200 colleges from across the country.

[edit] About Pragyan '05
NITT saw the first ever technical festival PRAGYAN being celebrated from 29th to 31st January 2005. The idea of the festival originated from the students who carried out the planning and organization, patronized by honorable Director Dr. P. Subramanian and guided by the members of the faculty advisory committee.
The festival was unique not only in the kind of events organized but also its scale and the magnitude of participation it drew. Enthusiastically supported by large corporate like IBM, the main sponsor, HP, the co-sponsor, TCS, Cognizant, Texas Instruments, Autodesk, Dell, Logic Info, L&T, Microsoft, Discreet, Masibus and The Hindu Education-Plus and many more, this festival was also unique in being mentored by our alumni in all possible ways.
Pragyan 2005 witnessed participation from 85 colleges (including IITs and NITs) from all over India and more than 1000 delegates and industry representatives. It comprised of 17 events and 35 different contests covering the entire engineering spectrum, the reports of which have been summarized here.
This festival amply demonstrated the creativity and organizational, capability of the students of the institute who successfully dealt with all the issues of maiden organization.

Pragyan 06 lived up to the success of its predecessor. The Pragyan logo and theme was kept unchanged in tune with the idea to make Pragyan a brand to reckon with.
Tata Consultancy Services was the chief sponsor for this year's event. Other major sponsors included Videocon, Airtel, HP etc.
This year's edition witnessed increased participation from colleges all over the country. Also for the first time it witnessed international participation in ByteCode (a programming event). Also it hosted prominent guest lectures including Prof. Yash Pal, Dr. Stephen Wolfram, Mr. Chris Gill, Prof. Christopher Charles Benninger.

PRAGYAN ‘07
Pragyan 2007, the International Technical festival of NIT Trichy, was held from the 1st to 4th of February . With a vast number of events encompassing the engineering and the managerial disciplines, Pragyan ’07 promised to be one of the best tech fests in the country.
The Guest Lecture Series is one of the most eagerly awaited events of Pragyan. Students get an opportunity to listen to the masters of various disciplines, share their experience and expertise and get inspired to scale greater heights. Pragyan ’07 had a host of eminent scientists, entrepreneurs and academicians coming down to enthuse the students & in turn giving them a chance to interact with their role models.
• Nobel Laureates Dr. Douglas Osheroff and Rudolph Marcus sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience.
• Dr. Guruswami Ravichandran, a professor of Aeronautics and Mechanical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology,gave a talk on his field of expertise - Nano and Bio-Mechanics of Materials.
• Jimmy "Jimbo" Wales, the head of Wikipedia intercated through an exclusive video conference.
• Gurcharan Das, the author of the international bestseller “India Unbound” .
• The pioneer of the company Dilip Chhabria Design Private Limited (DCD) Dilip Chhabria came along with his convoy of 4 wheeled beauties. It turned out to be a magnificient place to be for all the car lovers who wanted to know more about the way he transforms ordinary vehicles into imposing 4 wheel stunners. Pragyan ’07 also had a wide range of Workshops lined up .
• Transdesign workshop, conducted by Amarendra Kr. Das, to design a automobile.
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has become a hot-bed for budding researchers and scientists worldwide .. Aimed towards DSP enthusiasts, the work shop on Digital Signal Processing was a guide to code and learn the basics involved in image processing.
• My Firm , a one-day simulation game that dealt with the management of the firm by the entrepreneur. It is a team game where four participants team up to understand the mind of the entrepreneur in a simulated industrial environment.
Pragyan ’07, in its third year, promises to get bigger and better. It ensures to have a truly international flavour with more than 60 participating countries. As all the posters around the campus proclaim “Juggling plans on where to be next Feb? Join us… Feb 1st - 4th”
