Template talk:Prettytable100
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Note: this template is obsolete. Please use either {{prettytable}}, or (even better) the HTML attribute:
class="wikitable"
Please explain the difference between the two. - Omegatron 15:03, May 18, 2005 (UTC)
- Yes please, what does the "100" mean. You guys chose to keep this instead of using CSS, but without documentation this is not useful. —Michael Z. 2005-10-18 20:24 Z

- The "100" stems from the time that the straight template had a font size of 95%. In order to have a normal font size variant this template was created. Now the unqualified template has stabilised (after some oscillations) without modifying the font size, this one is obsolete. −Woodstone 20:40, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] TfD'd
This template was listed for deletion on Templates for Deletion. The decision was to keep this template. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/Not deleted/April 2005 for more information.
Put on Talk page to not disrupt article display. The request for deletion is the previously announced next step after introducing a CSS class which is capable of the same (and more) and changing the template(s) to include that class. If you are using any “prettytable” template in your pet article(s), use {{prettytable}} or substitute it manually by “class="wikitable"” and thus help accelerating the deletion process and Wikipedia servers. — Christoph Päper 11:06, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
- This template survived a debate on TfD. The discussion can be found here. -Splashtalk 16:08, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Prettytable100center
Quite a few times the majority of cells (for example all but column one) need to be centered horizontally. I could not find a way to override centering on a global level using the existing template. So I have created a copy of the template prettytable100 with the centering added on. Here is a typical example of use:
A | B | |
---|---|---|
P | PA | PPPBBB |
QQQ | QQQAAA | QA |

[edit] redirection to prettyinfobox did harm to several instances
Thus template was redirected to prettyinfobox. Before redirecting to a differently formatted other table style, one should be sure that it does not damage the instances already created. In this case it did some damage. So I reverted to the preceding version. Especially the "float" option creates conflicts beteen tables. −Woodstone 07:11, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
- I reverted and haven't seen any problems in any articles. Can you please specify which articles show problems? —Cantus…☎ 09:07, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
No time now, but have a look at pinyin. −Woodstone 09:19, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
Most of the tables using this template are tables aligned to the right, this is why the prettyinfobox template works. I fixed the Pinyin article to use prettyinfobox. Do you have any other problematic pages? I will revert to the redirect soon. —Cantus…☎ 07:13, July 23, 2005 (UTC)
I do not understand your insistence on deleting (functionally) the prettytable100 template. It is most often used for tables at the left. Practically every instance may get problems in reading flow if moved to the right. The current table in pinyin looks very cramped. Especially tables containing special characters like IPA can be difficult to read at smaller scale. Can't you just let it be? −Woodstone 09:04, July 23, 2005 (UTC)
Why don't you understand that a right aligned style of fixed width is quite different from a left aligned style with variable width. It throws off the flow of the article. If you don't like the template, don't use it. You can use prettyinfobox whenever you like. Have a look at International phonetic alphabet (but you won't see much because I will revert). −Woodstone 14:13, July 24, 2005 (UTC)
