Pufferfish in popular culture

Pufferfishes (family Tetraodontidae) and porcupinefishes (family Diodontidae) have a very distinctive appearance and comical mode of locomotion, and as such have become among the most popular fishes for cartoons, logos, and other such uses.

- Bloat, voiced by Brad Garrett, is not a pufferfish in Finding Nemo, he is a porcupinefish.
- Sykes, voiced by Martin Scorsese, is a pufferfish in Shark Tale.
- Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures often uses a pufferfish/porcupine fish for Chi spells.

- Puffy has been designated as the mascot of the OpenBSD project. Although supposed to be (and named after) a pufferfish, Puffy more closely resembles a spiny porcupinefish.
- The covers of the books "Understanding Japanese Information Processing" and "Understanding CJKV Information processing" by Ken Lunde, published by O'Reilly, feature an engraving of a pufferfish.
