Punk-Skinhead
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A punk-skinhead (also known as a punk-skin or Oi! skinhead) is a skinhead with significant punk rock influences.
This subgroup of the skinhead subculture developed in the late 1970s and increased in numbers during the heyday of the Oi! music scene. Punk-skinheads don't have as much of a cleancut appearance as the 1960s-style Trojan skinheads. In contrast to the mod-influenced traditional skinheads, punk-skinheads tend to wear higher boots, T-shirts instead of button-up shirts, and army trousers or tight jeans (sometimes splattered with bleach). They usually crop their hair shorter than the 1960s-style skinheads; often to grade 0 length or shaved off completely with a razor. Punk-skinheads generally have more tattoos than traditional skinheads.
The general public, traditional skinheads and members of other subcultures have stereotyped punk-skinheads as glue-sniffers and unkempt thugs. Some traditional skinheads and mods in the United Kingdom have referred to them as boneheads. Many punk-skinheads are non-political or left wing, but this style was also adopted by Nazi skinheads.
