[edit] Fair use
While a PD image may be available somewhere, this is the best image currently available to illustrate the subject. --evrik (talk) 03:11, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- This was also the image suggsted by Suarez's office at The Newshour. --evrik (talk) 03:38, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Our fair use policy forbids using a non-free image if a free image could be created that could be used in its place. See criterion #1 and counter-example #8. In this case, it would be possible to create a free image; therefore this non-free image may not be used. Whether a free replacement image exists or not at this time is not relevant. – Quadell (talk) (random) 13:40, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Our fair use policy clearly permits the use of this picture. While it may be possible to create a fair use image, to date non has been created. This image lends value to more than one article. It should remain until a free image is found. --evrik (talk) 14:18, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- One could argue that this shows him in context and is not just showing what he looks like. If it makes a difference, {{Promophoto}} could be used alone ... right? --evrik (talk) 14:52, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have an email from Ray Suarez at the Newshour discussing the use of this image and giving permission for Wikipedia to use it. I haven't written about this prior because their seems to be no response to my last posting. --evrik (talk) 16:14, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, permission to use the photo "on Wikipedia" won't work for our purposes. He needs to give permission to anybody to use it for any purpose, including commercial, forever. The best way to accomplish that is to release it under the GFDL, the CC-by, or CC-by-SA licenses, or to the public domain. —Chowbok ☠ 16:28, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
