[edit] Television
The correct title of the television program The $64,000 Question cannot be given because Wikipedia converts the $ symbol to "dollar" and sometimes deletes the first digit after the $. Thus, there is a page about the TV show and the heading has this incorrect title: The 64,000 Dollar Question. Also there's a redirect page, The 4,000 Question, because the $6 was deleted. How can a page with the correct title be set up? Pepso 14:39, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
Someone added "Rocco's Modern Life" to the list of requested articles. I think it should be removed because there is already an article under the correct name, Rocko's Modern Life. I am going to remove it right now but I wanted to post this here to let whoever added it know. Imerson 04:06, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- Suggest in addition to removing the request here, you make a page with the misspelling, "Rocco's Modern Life", and redirect it to the correct page as this seems like it might be a common mistake.--WilliamThweatt 03:28, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Splitting the section
I'd like to propose splitting the Culture and fine arts section into two new sections: Pop Culture and Fine Arts. Pop Culture would be for the categories like Celebrities, Movies, Television, Anime, Comic Books, etc. Fine Arts would be for Literature, Theatre, Dance, Poetry, etc. Is there support for this? MK 18:28, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Why is music not in the index? What category is it under? I can get to it using search....
- There is a lot of gaming stuff that would fit in neither Notthe9 03:24, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- There are many books that are pop-culture and there are many books that could be considered both pop-culture and fine-arts. I say leave the sections as they are so these grey areas don't become headaches. -Xaliqen 10:04, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
This is correct. One person's definition of Pop Culture and Fine Arts will be different from another's. To paraphrase Raymond Williams; 'culture is one of the two or three hardest words in the english language to define'. --Graham 12:16, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Mm. Not so sure I agree. Fine Arts, as I understand it, should imply classical origins, at least to some extent. And, even if there is a large grey area, there are certain things that I'm pretty sure everyone agrees goes in one category or the other. ~Kazu 04:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Advertising?
Is "Quality Roms (www.qualityroms.com" just shameless SPAMing of wikipedia, or do we have reason to want that article? Notthe9 03:24, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I thought so, so I deleted it as spam the other day... feel free to restore if you feel it is worthy of an article. Y0u 19:12, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Islam Requests
Many of the Islam requests are things like Shams which merely means Sun or relates to Ash-Shams which is a sura from the Qur'an. Da'wah is similar to evangelism or missionary work like an everyday effort to tell people about Islam or to show them through your actions. The point being we could possible to a history of Da'wah throughout time but if there isn't much in an Ibn Hazm article then it is unlikely. Is it a good idea for me to redirect things (like I have with Iftar) to the subject they fit with because iftar is the breaking fast meal which fits with Ramadan or else it is just a definition. Thanks gren
[edit] Duplicated content
The last 25% or so of this page was accidentally duplicated in an edit sometime recently. I gave up trying to find the date this happened. I am currently (see timestamp) working to merge the original content added after the duplication back into the main hierarchy. This may take a couple of hours since I might not be able to finish it in one sitting. - dcljr 19:11, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, finished merging. There wasn't a lot, but it's now merged into the main hierarchy. I rearranged a few sections to bring more under the Art section. I think it would benefit from additional reorganizing, though. - dcljr 21:42, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I think the page has been reduplicated at least 4 times over! I don't even know where to begin to fix this, but I can help. Jaberwocky6669 22:41, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Are these really necessary?

[edit] Alphabetical by First Name
Would it be the end of the world if I resorted celebrities, writers, and journalists into alphabetical ordering by first name?
I run and maintain the RABot which cleans and sorts pages in WP:RA. However, it only understands how to sort when lists are organized alphabetically from the start of the link (or in the case of people, by their first name). In order to maintain the last name ordering used only on this page and the sports page, I have had to disable all sorting features for these two pages. This just creates more work for people ordering things by hand. I would like to turn the sorting features back on and place everything as alphabetical by first name, but I wanted to ask if that would be okay first. Dragons flight 16:33, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Hearing no objections, I have made the change, which presently affects everything except artists. Dragons flight 02:12, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, I just saw Your suggestion. I suppose it's too late to revert, but I find it really unfortunate. Besides, why are artist (i.e., painters) to be treated differently than are writers? It doesn't make sense to me. 211.225.34.168 01:58, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Surely a last name search would perform better than a first name search. 'Brad Pitt' has a common first name, but a not-so-common last, for example. The problem being that many irrelevant links would be produced by the search, right?--Graham 12:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Yikes! Alphabetical by first name is really a bad idea. Basically, these names are in random order. J. Van Meter 20:54, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

And I am trying to put in a request for Penelope Farmer. Looking at the "F" section, it is all first names, and the "P" section is all last name "P". A mess. Thehalfone 11:08, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Movies?
I propose changing the "Movies" heading to "Cinema and Motion Pictures." The word "movies" is colloquial and not a term used by scholars of film history (who might use this encyclopedia). Don't want to sound like a snob, but I'd prefer the technical term. Anyone object? Bruxism 00:42, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
I have no objection.
In the US, normal people 'movies" and NOT 'cinema.' 'Motion pictures' sounds old-fashioned to me. If You really must change the heading, then a re-direct from 'movies' is necessary. Why did You choose this particular title? Is 'cinema' some-thing different from 'motion pictures'? 211.225.34.168 02:15, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
I believe Bruxism is wrong in his statement. I am currently studying for a degree in Cultural and Historical Studies in the United Kingdom. I have never felt compelled to use 'Motion Picture', and have not heard any of my lecturers use this term. Indeed, the only time I have come across this term is in essays produced by American scholars before the mid 1980's. I would go so far as to argue that the term 'Motion Picture' is colloquial with respects to the American-English language.--Graham 12:31, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
"Movies" sounds more like a list of individual productions, but "Cinema" sounds better in reference to the whole field, the art of Cinema, of which movies are the summit. In Britain and Ireland the word "film" is used and "movie" is regarded as an Americanism. The term "Film" can also be used as a category, but again "Cinema" is more general. The term "motion pictures" is perhaps pompous, though it is heard often in referrence to "the motion picture industry". Feargal Mooney 23:01, 24 January 2007 (UTC) 22:56, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zeph Daniel
This man is very interesting, he perports to have been to a rich family who aided very powerful government officials by subjecting him to trauma-based brainwashing with a Satanic façade (from what he has said of them, they vary likely hade ties to organized crime, possibly running a racket of their own). He claims to have worked in the entertainment industry working on special effects. He also had mental problems and tried to get pharapy for his repressed memories (he even relates being institutionalized for a briefe period after suffering a nervous breakdown, he claims to have been experimented on by government officials, apparently these where remote viewing experiments). He claims to have gotten into trouble with some nefarious characters (he alludes that these were government agents who where angry at him for refusing to work with them) undergone a nervous breakdown, and cried out to God, who then proceeded to rescue him. After this experiance he reported to have summoned miricales, such as healing, exorcism and prophecy. He has since been on a mission to reveal the truth about Satan's socio-psycho manipulation of the human race, particularly through religion.

http://zephreport.com/?select=bio (Zeph Daniel's biography and bibliography).
Zeph Daniel's view of true Christianity's beliefe and mission, and why it is either more complete then some religions, and superior to others.
Writes about "Christian Mind Control", which he believes to be a Satanic abuse of Christianity for the purposes of either manipulating the believer or tarnishing the name of Christ amongst all but the most devout and/or uncritical of believers. This is an important concept in Zeph Daniel's story, suggesting that, like in Hegalian politics, there is a kind of "good cop, bad cop" game being played out within the Churches, with legalists acting as bad cop, compelling many to accept the hereticaly liberal "good" cop. He feels both movements ignore important doctrines within Christianity and concentrate on singular issues.
Zeph's general synopses of the world religions, which he believes are incomplete, corrupted, and some fundalmentally wrong.
Another diatribe against religion, quotes Vedic scriptures. An important part of his message is that God is universal and thus has appeared in various forms to people throughout the world, starting many religions that contain different pieces of the truth, Christianity ideally being the pure, un-corrupted fullfillment of many world religions, rather then Judaismexclusively.
http://www.libertytothecaptives.net/zeph_daniel_beware_his_net.html
A critical response to Zeph from another Christian, accusing him of including various pagan doctrines into his teachings and interviewing heretics. For a Christian, there are some legitimate concerns with him slipping into idolatrous pantheism or panentheism (which could potentially be true in the past and future tenses, but cannot possibly be true in the present tense, given the fallen nature of this world), he also may have supported some truly heretical views such as J'hushuah not being Christos and the wishfull thinking of Universalism. However, although he does retain a vague panentheistic thrasology, all these other heresies seem to have been settled and corrected by Zeph Daniel by now, and most of the accusations are based on him merely talking about pagan subjects, using pagan symbols (which he probably is ignorent of, made evident by the arbitrary matter it used to decorate his site) and hosting heretics like Ebionite Sherry Shriner on his radio show (apparently, he was experimenting with a Christian form of latenight talk radio), and for quoting pagan documents such as the Vedas, the Talmud, and various Jewish and Catholic mystics (evidentally, as mentioned allready, to look for possible digns of God's presence, and maybe even to find complimentary perspectives on Christian doctrine, this latter activity is vary risky, but it is not neccessarily heretical, especially given the vary temonology and language found in scripture, particularly the Gospel of John, which seems to reference Platonism in explaining it's message).

[edit] Newt from the Aliens film IS connected to the comics but......
I noticed that the Newt character, featured in the Aliens film, was recently removed from the comic book section of the requested articles page, by Netkinetic. This is apparantly due to the fact that the character is unrelated to the comics. This is only partially true though. The original printings of the first two Dark Horse Comics mini-series did feature the character of Newt, as well as Hicks. It wasn't until the release of the Alien³ film that Dark Horse retconned the series for reprints, changing the character names in order for the comics to still fit in with the movies. Newt became Billie while Hicks was now known as Wilks. So the character IS part of the comic series. However, I don't feel that either the film or comic versions of the character, deserve their own page. I've added the relevant information, concerning the comic book version of the character, to the Aliens (comic) article. The only other thing I can think of would be to have one article about the character that would incorporate both versions including the name change seen in the comics. JohnBWatt
[edit] Noteabilty of Stewart B. Johnson
Is Stewart B. Johnson notable? He appears to be a Scottish abstract artist who had his own website. There are no books that mention him that I can find. There is also a Stewart B. Dragons flight 18:37, 15 July 2006 (UTC) Hi there i've also taken a look at the artwork of Shem booth-Spain but i think theres a problem with classification if we will go ahead with this. Simply boxing artist, musician etc etc is all fine being that there is evidence of content and history from objective stance rather than self promotion which as we all know could be considered "spam", but im still finding to much information spread about in separate pages of sites. However i propose the formatting guidelines set about as mentioned above if we go ahead, with the slight difference being over separation being a critical flaw in the formating method in page layout nextime in clearing.Im gonna be away this week so ill get round to contacting you chaps and a few others who highlighted this problem/idea.
[edit] What is the protocol for deleting stuff here?
There are obivous requests here for articles which, even were they to be created, would be candidates for speedy deletion when they were created. Two obvious examples: maskstheatrical comedy and tragedy, which would never be created or kept under that title, and MARY IS GOD CATHOLIC MOVEMENT (all caps), which would be highly unlikely ever to appear under that title, even if that is the purportedly true name of the movement, due to technical limitations (at least). Do we discuss proposed deletions of this sort here, or do we just be bold and take it upon ourselves when such requests are obviously totally wrongheaded? Rlquall 20:46, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "confronting cultural shift"
I am not aware of any such article. If there is one, then, I do hereby advocate making it easier to locate.
Here are some subject-matter examples:
From Muhammed Ali:
He refused to serve in the American army during the Vietnam War as a conscientious objector, because "War is against the teachings of the Holy Qur'aan. I'm not trying to dodge the draft. We are supposed to take part in no wars unless declared by Allah or The Messenger. We don't take part in Christian wars or wars of any unbelievers."
Is our culture still so pleased w/ Muslim soldiers?
Television:
All government-mocking situation-comedies.
Bewitched: greed-mocking, corporation-mocking.
There is very little similar now.
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
Now, fear is frequently honored. Possibly, it should be. I do not claim certainty.
