Research and Innovative Technology Administration

The Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) is a United States Department of Transportation administration created in 2005. RITA was created under the Norman Y. Mineta Research and Special Programs Improvement Act (Public Law 108-426) to manage research and implement cost reduction technology within the Department.

RITA has a direct 2006 financial year budget of $39.1 million, undertakes research indirectly funded by other government agencies and is structured into:
- The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (Washington, DC)
- Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Cambridge, MA)
- The Transportation Safety Institute (Oklahoma City, OK)
