Retro Junk
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Retro Junk is a website focusing around pop-culture nostalgia. It includes information and video files about movies, TV shows, and commercials from the 1970s through the 1990s.
Retro Junk uses the following slogans:
- "Your memory machine."
- "Hey, I remember that."
- "A nostalgia filled look into our past."
Covering popular culture of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, the site includes forums, television show openings, television commercials, and popular movie trailers from the three decades. Everything on the website from video clips to articles is submitted and reviewed by registered users.
Articles submitted from readers cover everything from music of the times to popular cartoons. Some criticism has emerged from a few members that many of the articles do not measure up in a professional and sometimes even an informed manner.
[edit] History
Retro Junk was created by Vertex (Zach) in October 31, 2003 who lives in Portland, Oregon after he and his roommate Tredds decided to create a website dedicated to the era of their youth. Although Vertex originally planned for the site to be devoted strictly to subjects pertaining to the 1980s, it has since been expanded to include other decades as popularity has grown and users have diversified.
Discussion forums were added to the website on April 15, 2004. Initially Vertex ran the forums along with his roommate Tredds, but after Tredds shipped out for the military, Vertex ran it alone. In September of 2005 Byrd man (Adam Byrd) was made the first moderator of the forum followed immediately by Ryzen. Since its opening the site has seen nine moderators as of January 2007 with Vertex and Byrd man being the longest standing.
As of December 2006 the forums were updated from phpbb to vbulletin.
