Robin Wood (critic)

Robin Wood (born February 23, 1931, in London, England) is a film critic and author, acclaimed for his reviews of films from Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks and Satyajit Ray, among others.

Robin Wood was born Robert Paul Wood on February 23, 1931, to Robert and Florence Wood. He graduated in 1953 from Jesus College, Cambridge with a degree in education. On 17 May 1960, he married Aline Macdonald. They divorced in 1974, after bearing three children.

He published his first book, Hitchcock's Films, in 1965. From 1969 to 1974, he lectured in film at Queen's University, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. From 1973 to 1977, he lectured in film at the University of Warwick, in Coventry, England.
in 1977, Wood came out as homosexual in an essay in Film Comment magazine. Also in that same year, he became of professor of film studies at York University, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he taught until his retirement.
