Rogla

Rogla is a notable tourist resort in Zreško Pohorje , Slovenia.

First origins of tourism at Zreško Pohorje already appeared before the second world war. The first lookout tower on Rogla vas built in year 1934. Majority of tourist buildings were destroyed and burned down during war. Guesthouse “Koča” on Rogla was rebuilt in 1956. “Koča “was managed by mountaineering society of Zreče. In year 1972 Unior took control and renovate it and this way kept it alive.

[edit] First guesthouse and first ski slove with ski lift
Further development of touris at Zreško Pohorje was tightly connected with compan Unior (blacksmith industry). In year 1974 management of company had ordered studies for development of Rogla resort with ski slopes and ski lifts. In same year they also widen the road till peak. They started cleaning the road during a winter season and make it possible to arrive on top with a car. This allowed faster development on Rogla. Shortly after were constructed ski lifts Zlodejevo and Uniorček, which could offer a lift up to 900 skier per hour.
Concept of development of tourism center has included unique offer and connection between spa resort Zreče and ski resort on Rogla, rural tourism (agro tourism) and other tourism centers on Pohorje, especially with Kope and Ribniška koča and later also with Mariborsko Pohorje. On behave of this basis, in year 1978/79 it was built Hotel Dobrava in Zreče. In same year has also started construction of Hotel Planja on Rogla. Hotel Planja was opened in year 1980, at the same time also started working ski lifts “Mašin žaga”. In this project had invested all companies form region of Zreško Pohorje, biggest part by company Unior.

In year 1981 was finished hotel Dobrava in Zreče with 70 ležišč and 300 seats, swimming pool next to hotel and new athletics-football stadium. On Rogla it was also finished construction of Hotel Planja with 89 beds, into which was connected also an old guest house “Koča” with 25 beds, 5 bungalows with 40 beds and small bungalows of companies form region of Zreško Pohorje and city of Celje with 300 beds. Tourists were also able to use: 20 km of cross country lines, ski lifts Zlodejevo, Mašin žaga, Ostruščica and Uniorček. In only 4 years it was raised capacity for more than 5 times.
Bed capacities in 1983 were: 116 beds in bungalows “Jelka”, possibility of renting 40 bungalows with 224 beds, 176 beds in hotel Planja. Although sport tourism is getting bigger importance nowadays and is one of fastest growing sectors in tourism, the idea of development of sport facilities for physical fitness and preparations on high altitude was already deep inside of developers’ minds. For this reason they had constructed athletics stadium with football field at altitude of 1.500 m and is one of few in Europe. In middle eighties was also constructed ski slope “Jurgovo” and tennis, basketball, handball and volleyball play fields and sport hall with 2.500 sq meters of indoor surface.
In the 1990s capacity on Rogla was 1.200 beds, and ski lifts with capacity of 12.200 skiers per hours. In new year 2000 was opened new Hotel Dobrava with 160 new beds.
