I appreciate the comment and recognize the fact that the quality of the archive needs to be preserved. I'm not sure what should be classified as a vanity page but the word "vanity" would be the last word you could use to associate with this man. Perhaps it is just the form this page was written that makes one think of the credibility of the content. I've had been one of the lucky people who traced my first Aikido lineage through him, I'm now practicing in the U.S. with the Iwama group and had been training with many teachers for almost 15 years. I thought it would be best to give historical credit to where real credit is due. The early practitioners and the most senior practitioners of Aikido in the Philippines are virtually unknown for many reasons. They are "common folks". Most did not finish their education and most lived a hard life . Dela Cruz sensei was not an exemption. The main organizations "neglected" the Philippines because it is just a 3rd world country and does not possess the resources of first world countries, but the seed of Aikido was preserved because of the dedication of these people. Most of them had not even touched a computer, nor been on the internet. So if you were using a computer and the internet to verify the truthfulness of these claims , I'm sorry to say that you will be lead astray with alternative history (from those people who are really puting out the "VANITY" pages and distorting history). (Based on my personal account) Rolando dela Cruz is one of the earliest student of Manuel "Omar" Camar. His skills and character are not short of remarkable. I was there when he was challenged by one of his rowdy student (The much larger student was also an agressive jujutsu practitioner) who wished to humiliate him. Knowing his skills, I thought the student was in for a beating of his life. To my surprise, dela Cruz sensei just waved his hand like shooing a fly smiled and said "No" . As I thought of it, it would have been a contest with no real winner. He has such a calming effect on his student and his character as an example to them was enough to make them act and respect everyone. His humility , simple wisdom and skills gained my respect. During my wedding, his only gift to me and my wife was one of his old wooden sword from the dojo (for he is a man of humble means), but to me it was one of the most important gift I received that day.The administration of the wikipedia can choose to preserve this entry or remove as they see fit.
