[edit] History
Since 1970 the S-Bahn Rostock operates along an uptown railroads between Rostock Central Station and Warnemünde. It was constructed with the purpose to connect the living areas with the port area
[edit] Rolling stock today
The lines S1 and S2 are operatet with push-pull trains with a Class 143 locomotive and two modernised Bilevel cars of the Deutsche Reichsbahn of the GDR and a newer bilevel cab car. The trains can be extended up to six coaches. The S1 is operated every 15 minutes, the S2 every hour. During the rush hour the S1 operates every 10 minutes.
The line S3 is operated by diesel multiple unit Class 642 or Class 628 because the train service is supposed to be extended to the ferry terminal in a few years. Also the S3 has only a few passengers and therefore the small multiple unit is just right.
[edit] Current Changes
Since the timetablechange on the December 11, 2005 only a few trains of the line S2 operate to Güstrow during the rush hour. Most trains end already in Schwaan or Bützow. Between Schwaan and Güstrow buses replace the trains. The trains which are operating up to Bützow (every second train) have a connection to another train departing to Güstrow.
This will probably last until December 2006.
[edit] Future plannings
At the moments there are running plannings for a tram-train network in the City. For this purpose the Ostseebahn GmbH was founded.
