Ruili (simp.: 瑞丽市; trad.: 瑞麗市; Pinyin: Ruìlì Shì) is a city with 110,000 inhabitants and an area of 860 km² in the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province in the southwest of the People's Republic of China.
An older name of Ruili is Měngmǎo. 勐卯; ruì means "fortunate", and lì means "beautiful".
Ruili is on the border with Myanmar. More than half of the population of Ruili are members of various national minorities, mostly Dai, Jingpo, Deang, Bai, Pumi etc. It is an important location for trade with Myanmar, in both legal and illegal goods. Prostitution and drug trade in the city are also not uncommon [1].
Han Chinese and Dai mostly live in the valley, in the city; Jingpo and Deang live mostly in the outskirts in the sourrounding hills.
