Civil union |
Although same-sex marriage in Mexico is not legally recognized, the governments of Mexico City and of the state of Coahuila have recently passed legislation that allows same-sex couples to enter into an official civil union, which gives same-sex couples the right to inherit pensions and property, join health and life insurance policies and make medical decisions for each other. The legislation has met oppositions by conservatives in the mainly Roman Catholic country. The law does not, however, legalize same-sex marriage or allow same-sex couples to adopt. [1]
