San Francisco Seals are an American soccer team, originally founded in 1992. The team is a member of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, and plays in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference against teams from Bakersfield, Fresno, Glendora, La Mirada, Lancaster, Los Angeles, San Jose, Santa Ana and Ventura.
The club originally started in the USISL as the San Francisco All-Blacks and changed its name to the San Francisco United All-Blacks two seasons later. They then became the San Francisco Bay Seals in 1996 and moved up to the A-League in 1998. Under new ownership, the club was renamed the Bay Area Seals in 2000, but folded after just one season.
The Seals were division champions three times, in 1994, 1995 and 1997, and also in 1997 made an incredible run to the semi finals of the US Open Cup. After winning the D3 US Open Cup, the Seals knocked out the Seattle Sounders, the previous year's Open Cup Champions, the Kansas City Wiz in the round of 16, and the San Jose Clash in the quarter finals at the Clash's home field, Spartan Stadium. In the semi-finals they lost to Major League Soccer's D.C. United 2-1 to end the Cinderella run.
The club was re-formed in 2006 by the original owners as the San Francisco Seals, and currently play their home games at different venues in and around the city of San Francisco, California, including the College of Alameda in Alameda, California, Livermore High School in Livermore, California, and at Negoesco Stadium on the campus of the University of San Francisco. The team's colors are black and white.
