Saugus.net
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saugus.net is the oldest website covering the town of Saugus, Massachusetts. It was originally founded by Eric W. Brown in early 1998. Due to its longevity (for a web site) it has a special status with the Town of Saugus, and it is currently considered the official site for the town. It is the only source online for the Saugus General By-Laws, Saugus Zoning By-Laws, Saugus Subdivision Rules & Regulations, and other like materials.
Within Saugus is it primarily known for its forums, calendar of events, photographs, and historic Saugus postcards.
Outside of Saugus it is primarily known for its computer references (including most notably glossaries of computer terms, file extensions, and free software) and its annual Halloween ghost story contest, although it recently got a little national attention due to its stand on open formats and the eventual switchover of the entire Massachusetts Government.
It has also been involved with some print publications, like the books A Gathering of Memories: Saugus 1900-2000, Non-Profit Saugus (ISBN 0-9703141-0-8) and the annual Historic Saugus Calendar.
A few other not-for-profit web sites (most notably including Newton's Library, Non-Profit Saugus, and ShellTown are directly maintained by Saugus.net.
