This page is a cheat sheet for new and forgetful Wikipedians that boils down a few of the many prodecural things that determine the fate of articles in Wikipedia. If you haven't already, it's probably a good idea to read the full policy and only use this page as reference.
You may find it handy to print out this page for future reference.

[edit] Speedy Deletion
Official policy: WP:CSD
[edit] General Criteria
- Patent nonsense
- Test pages
- Vandalism (see also dealing with vandalism)
- This includes redirects created during cleanup of page move vandalism.
- Duplicate content
- Does not apply to content in userspace, speedily deleted, or undeleted according to undeletion policy. Other criteria than this one may still apply to such pages.
- Contributions made by a banned user after bannination, unless the user has been unbanned.
- Temporarily deleting a page in order to merge page histories after a cut and paste move.
- Any page which is requested for deletion by the original author
- Author must reasonably explain that it was created by mistake, and the page must be edited only by its author.
- Talk pages of already deleted pages
- Does not apply if they contain records of the deletion discussion and are linked from Wikipedia:Archived delete debates. You can speedy the page if the deletion discussion is logged elsewhere, like a VfD sub-page or other log).
[edit] Article Criteria
- Very short articles providing little or no context
- Consider turning it into an appropriate redirect.
- Foreign language articles that already exist on another Wikimedia project
- Any article whose contents consist only of an external link, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, or rephrasing of the title
- Any article which consists only of attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title
- Any article that has been discussed at Votes for Deletion, where it was decided to transwiki the article, and this has already been done.
- Insult/attack pages.
- An article about a real person that does not assert that person's importance or significance. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to VFD instead. For details, see Wikipedia:Deletion of vanity articles.
For information about speedying user pages, templates, redirects, categories, and images, see WP:CSD
[edit] Procedure
To list an article to be speedied, type {{db|Reason}} at the top of the page, with Reason being the appropriate criterion for deletion.
You can also use:
- {{d}} (if you're lazy)
- {{db-empty}} (for a blank page)
- {{db-bio}} (for non-notable bio pages)
- {{db-attack}} (for a page to bash someone)
- {{db-repost}} (for reposting of an AFD'd page)
- {{db-nonsense}} (for patent nonsense)
You might also want to consider placing {{test}} on the creator's user talk page to help point him or her in the right direction. If you tag an article for deletion as a non-notable bio, you may opt to notify the user who created the article with {{nn-warn}}.
[edit] AFD
Official policies: WP:AFD and WP:DEL
[edit] Criteria
- Is not suitable for Wikipedia (see WP:NOT)
- Original research (including the coining of neologisms)
- Inappropriate user pages in excessive or stubborn cases.
- Vanity page
- Advertising or other spam
- Hoax
- Completely idiosyncratic non-topic
[edit] Procedure
- Enter the {{subst:afd}} at the top of the page to be deleted. Include "AFD" in the edit summary, and don't mark it as minor.
- Click the "this article's entry" link in the VFD box that appears on the page. This will create the new page; type {{subst:afd2 | pg=PageName | text=Reason why the page should be deleted}} ~~~~ in the blank page.
- PageName should be the name of the page you want deleted. Following text= should be an explanation of the nomination. The ~~~~ signs your name and date after the content.
- Go to WP:AFD, click the large edit link near the bottom of the page, and add {{subst:afd3 | pg=PageName}} at the bottom of the page. Again, PageName is the name of the page you're nominating. Place the page's name in the edit summary.
- (Optional) Add the AfD'd page to your watchlist, to avoid the AfD tag being removed by a vandal.
