Severna Park High School is a public high school located in Severna Park, Maryland. It is a part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system. It's current feeder school is Severna Park Middle School. The Falcons are rivals with the nearby Broadneck High School Bruins. The school opened its doors to students in 1963.
The principal is Dr. James Hamilton, who announced in 2006 his intentions to make Severna Park High School the number one school in Maryland by 2008 as measured by the number of students sitting for the AP exams. Dr. Hamilton's philosophy is that academic excellence can be measured by the ratio between number of Advanced Placement tests taken in a year and the number of graduating seniors.
Severna Park High has gained a strong reputation in Anne Arundel County for its consistent success in academics and athletics. The school's field hockey team, state champions in 2006, has been one of the nation's top teams for decades, and holds the record for most championship titles in the entire state of Maryland. The school's mock trial team has been undefeated in county competition for seven out of the last eight years, and is the reigning State Champion for all public and private high schools in Maryland.
