Sheep shagger
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sheep shagger (alternative spelling: Sheepshagger) is a term normally aimed at people living in rural areas where populations of sheep are greater than those of the human residents, such as rural Ireland, Aberdeen, Wales or Aussie, implying they perform sexual acts with sheep. Usage of this term is normally restricted to within the British and Irish Isles and mostly aimed at Lancashiremen or the Welsh, areas where animal farming is still a major industry. The term is also traded between Australians and other Australians, where sheep farming especially is conducted on an industrial scale. To some, the term is derogatory, but to others, it is merely a cultural joke and is taken in good humour. This is evidenced, for example, in South Wales, where there is a good deal of sheep paraphernalia, and the fans of the largest football club in the area, Cardiff City F.C., will chant "1-0 to the sheepshaggers" when they are 1-0 up against the opposing team. The term is also used as a nickname for the Aberdeen football club; however, Aberdeen fans have taken pride in reinforcing this allegation; inflatable sheep are a frequent sight at games, and, when opposing fans sing "You're only sheep shagging bastards" (to the tune of Guantanamera), the Aberdeen fans sing "We're only sheep shagging bastards" back. Fans of Wrexham F.C. sing a song extolling the virtues of "Fluffy sheep" to visiting English teams. The term is also applied to Derby County F.C. by local rivals most notably Nottingham Forest. Stereotypical Sheep Bestiality, while often the subject of comedy, is, illegal in the eyes of English law and that of many American states, but not all of them.
Two variations of this term often heard in Liverpool and in North East England is "Woollyback", referring to someone living close to or in the Pennines, or for the latter as a dock worker. Another variant is "Name of place: Where the men are men and the sheep are worried".
Sheep shagger is also a derogatory nickname used against supporters of Carlisle United Football Club (due to their rural Cumbrian location - their actual nickname is "one of the Cumbrians" [official] or "the Foxes") and especially Derby County Football Club, with their official nickname being "The Rams".
Sheepshagger's Gold was the name of a beer brewed in Aviemore, Scotland - now Cairngorm Brewery.
