Sher Puttar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sher Puttar (English:Sons of Lions) is a Punjabi people based street gang now located mainly in United States, undergoing many different types of problems throughout the years. They have been identified by wearing orange and black colors and have been involved in many crimes, mostly against hindus. Sher Puttars take their name and insignia from groups such as Babbar Khalsa and Sher-e-punjab. As the gang grows, many other ethnicities have joined as well including Muslims, Jews, Latinos, and African Americans.
[edit] Problems with Hindu Groups
The story of Sher Puttars follows many different events in time. Sher Puttars and many other groups (or gangs) generally take this up as Hindu hatred. The beginning of these problems occurred in the 1950's when the British took over punjab and india. This involves the common myth that Gandhi had the choice to save Bhagat Singh from death but had not done it because gandhi found bhagat singhs actions wrong. Then, in 1980's, problems grew worse when Indira Gandhi called for the Indian Government to take control of Punjab and kill all terrorists hiding in the Golden Temple. During that time, many sikh groups took control of weapons and tried to hold against Indian government attacks. Many died and still more were injured. That was the cause of Operation Blue Star. Till this day, many Hindu groups still follow Indra Gandhis party and attack sikh groups and thats where Sher Puttars come in.
[edit] Sher Puttar Today
Today, Sher Puttar exists in mostly Canada and U.S. Sher Puttar members have gone into bigger crime settings such as the Punjabi Mafia. The real S.Ps can still be seen, and only hang around with their own group of people. Most of them have forgotten problems with Hindus and have found other enemies, including Latino and African American gangs, to induldge with.
