Sin City 2 is the sequel to the 2005 movie Sin City, which was based on Frank Miller's comic book miniseries Sin City, which were later collected into bound graphic novels. Originally scheduled for release in the summer of 2006, however due to scripting delays, IMDB states as of 27 January 2007 the film is set to be released in the year 2008.
It was revealed by director Robert Rodríguez that the story for film to be based around would be A Dame to Kill For as well as a new story to be written by Frank Miller. The new story revolves around the character of Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba). It will weave in and out of A Dame to Kill For and will show "A whole new side of Nancy", according to Miller. Frank Miller has also expressed interest in including other Sin City short stories in the film, mentioning a couple of 'Blue Eyes' stories, which introduce the assassin Delia and an 'Old Town Girls' story.[1]

[edit] Plot
The film's plot follows multiple storylines. One is based around A Dame to Kill For which follows Dwight (Clive Owen) and his former love Ava Lord, who betrayed him and ended their relationship for a wealthier man. Ava now returns years later claiming her marriage is abusive and insisting that Dwight help her. After she frames him for the murder of her husband, Dwight, with the help of Marv, seeks to clear his name.
Dwight's storyline in this film is a prequel to The Big Fat Kill, which occurred in the first film. It explains how Dwight came to have his "new face" and his connections with the Old Town prostitutes.
Dark Horse describes A Dame to Kill For: "It's one of those hot nights, dry and windless. The kind that makes people do sweaty, secret things. Dwight's thinking of all the ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb grey hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to cut loose. Just to feel the fire. One more time."[2]
Another storyline follows Nancy (Jessica Alba) as she grieves the death of Detective Hartigan, the man she had grown to love after he rescued her from That Yellow Bastard who had kidnapped and attempted to rape then kill Nancy when she was a child. This storyline is original and has not been published in the graphic novel series.

Even though the events confirmed for this film take place before certain events of the first film (allowing deceased characters such as Marv, Manute, and Goldie to return), they take place after the death of Hartigan, who will most likely not return. Bruce Willis has confirmed that he will not be involved in this film, but he has stated that he would love to reprise the role, if Frank Miller were to write some new Hartigan material for a subsequent sequel. It is unknown whether or not Becky (Alexis Bledel) or The Salesman/The Colonel (Josh Hartnett) will return to reprise their roles for this film. Miller has stated that they will do "a couple of 'Blue-Eyes' stories, and the character The Colonel is featured in all of them; the return of Josh Hartnett for the role of The Man/The Colonel depends on whether the characters are the same in the movie-continum, as they are in the comics. The use of "Blue-Eyes" may also be due to the fact that the possible third film may be Hell and Back which features her as an important character.
Angelina Jolie was said to be Rodríguez's first choice in the role of Ava, so much so that he was delaying production to correspond with her pregnancy, according to Rosario Dawson [3], but a subsequent article stated there are three rumored frontrunners for the role of Ava Lord: Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Rose McGowan [4]. Frank Miller himself confirmed that he and Rodriguez were interested in having Jolie as Ava, and that the director was discussing the possibility with her.[5]
Jolie later discussed in an article that she read the comic and plans to meet with the director when the movie is planned to be made.
It has been reported that Angelina Jolie has been replaced by Rachel Weisz as the front runner to play Ava in Sin City 2.[6]
