From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sraddha is the Hindu funeral ceremony. There are several forms of this ritual. The monthly Sraddha is performed every month in honor of one's deceased ancestors. This ritual is described in detail in the dharmasutras of Apastamba, Gautama, Baudhayana and Vasishtha. The host invites brahmans to a funeral meal, and the food they consume is thought to nourish the deceased ancestors.
