St. Elmo Brady

St. Elmo Brady (December 22, 1884 – December 25, 1966) was the first African American to obtain a Ph.D. degree in chemistry in the United States. He received the Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Illinois in 1916 for work done in Noyes Laboratory.
Brady had studied at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Brady also taught at Fisk and Howard University in Washington, D.C. [1] He died in Washington, D.C. in 1966.[2]
