The word is sometimes confused with stationery, meaning paper or office supplies. However also see stationary word origin, which proposes "stationary" as the original spelling and is also the most common (mis)spelling today. However, the original meaning of "stationary" was: "the place where stationery is kept", similar to the meaning of infirmary, which is where to find infirm (persons).
