Stephen Dawson (born 4 December 1985 in Dublin) is an Irish footballer. He currently plays for English League Two side Mansfield Town. He usually plays in central midfield, but has also occasionally played in a more wide role on the right wing.
Dawson began his professional football career at Leicester City, where he played under previous Mansfield manager Peter Shirtliff, who was Leicester's youth team coach at the time. He never played for Leicester's first-team, and despite being offered a new contract at the end of the 2004/05 season, Dawson decided to leave the club in search of regular first-team football. He signed a two-year deal with Mansfield in June 2005.
Dawson scored on his Mansfield debut, against Stockport in August 2005. This remains his only goal for the Stags to date. He is regarded as a promising player at Field Mill, and he has also played internationally for the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level.
