Steven James "Steve" McDonald, played by Simon Gregson, is a fictional character on the soap opera Coronation Street.

Steve, along with the rest of his family, arrived in the street as an adolescent in 1989. Steve was a bit of a rogue within his family, serving two short prison sentences. He is now regarded as a rehabilitated and respected member of the community. He was beaten and almost killed by Jez Quigley in 2000, who in turn was beaten up himself by Steve's dad Jim. Jez later died in hospital.
He has been married to Victoria Arden and Karen Phillips (twice), but is currently single. During a rough time in his relationship with Karen, he slept with Tracy Barlow, consequently making her pregnant in 2003. Tracy Barlow gave birth to their daughter Amy, though she initially was named Patience by Roy Cropper when he was deceived into believing Amy was his daughter. Tracy later decided she wanted to bring up her daughter herself, and revealed that Steve was the baby's father on Steve and Karen's second wedding day. Karen was horrified but later forgave him. Tracy was persistent in causing disruption for Steve and Karen which lasted from February 2004 to December 2004, until Steve finished his relationship with Karen on Christmas Day, admitting it was getting too much for him. For a brief period shortly after he dated Tracy, but his intentions were to try and secure his name as the father on Amy's birth certificate, not because he had feelings for Tracy. Tracy became aware of Steve's scheme, and attempted to prevent Steve access to Amy. The case was taken to court, where Steve was granted legal rights to see his daughter.
He later started dating Ronnie Clayton in 2005, a local gangster's estranged wife. In 2006, she tried to frame him for a hit and run of a pensioner, but she was eventually caught. Consequently, it led to the break up of the his cab firm with business partner Lloyd Mullaney, as Steve's alibi for the crime was that he was with Lloyd's girlfriend Kelly Crabtree during the night of the incident. This led to the temporary closure of street cars, until Lloyd decided to forgive Steve for his deception, and they were able to reopen the cab firm.
Steve has recently become attracted to the new pub barmaid, Michelle Connor.
Steve has made friends with Tracy who was released on bail.

He co-owns the local taxi firm StreetCars alongside his business partner Lloyd Mullaney. He also has a share in the Rovers Return pub alongside his mother Liz McDonald. Ownership transfer of the pub was delayed due to the death of the prior landlord, Fred Elliott but was eventually completed by Ashley Peacock.Since Tracy Barlow was sent to prison for 15 years. Steve is now looking after Amy along with Liz.
