Talk:Students in Harry Potter's year
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Title
Should 'year' be capitalized? I don't think it should be, this article should be moved to 'Students in Harry Potter's year'. John Reaves 23:12, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] It this to be considered cannon?
If not then perhaps just keep an article about her background notes and not to include this information in character lists. It is open to interpretation which characters have change names partially or fully etc.--155.144.251.120 01:28, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- It should not be cannon because its just notes written before the books. If we throw away characters we know were changed and include ones that were not changed (even though there is no other mention in cannon) we will be introducing systematic bias.--Dacium 02:55, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

- That's your opinion, however. Generally, in regards to Rowling's pre-publication notes, there are 3 attitudes: ignore them as pre-canon, accept them as canon until told otherwise, or - the most prevalent attitude on wikipedia - tentatively accept the data but add disclaimers that it may be inaccurate. But, until Rowling confirms that the notes are no longer accurate, they are - with the exceptions of the details which have been changed. Michaelsanders 15:39, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Last section is original research
Please note the last section on "approximately 25% of wizards are Purebloods, 25% Muggleborns, and 50% halfbloods" is original research. Firstly because she said approximatly, as a reference to the whole population. Not a specific total that matches perfectly to the number of students in 1 particular year. Second all the other work based on fitting to this total is original research. Please see rules at WP:OR on why this isn't acceptable in an encyclopieda, as it needs to be verifiable as per WP:V.--Dacium 02:49, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- It isn't OR - she said that 25% of the population were pure, 25& mug-born, 50% halfblood. Until she says otherwise, that applies right across the board. Including at Hogwarts. Michaelsanders 15:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
