Tavush is one of the provinces (marz) of Armenia. It is in the north-east of the country, bordering Georgia to the north and Azerbaijan to the east. Its capital is Ijevan. The province once comprised part of the northwestern region of the historic Utik province of the Kingdom of Armenia. It surrounds the Barkhudarli and Yukhari Askipara exclaves of Azerbaijan which have been controlled by Armenia since their capture during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The other cities in Tavush are Noyemberian, Dilijan and Berd. Berd is the center of the Shamshadin region that protudes on the east side of Tavush.
