Many critics of Don Hooten point to claims that depression runs in the Hooten family. They also point out that Mr. Hooten should have known about what was happening with his own son as it was actually occurring and not after the fact. Unfortunately, Mr. Hooten is not the only Plano parent who was unaware of what his children were doing in their free time. Many other parents suffered similar emotional blows when their own children died of heroin overdoses.
To claim that steroid use alone caused Taylor to commit suicide is a very simplistic explanation that ignores additonal factors which were reported to have led to his depression and untimely death. Mr. Hooten's crusade is seen by many as a father's emotional attempt to portray the issue of steroids in the most negative light possible regardless of scientific and medical evidence. While no one has claimed that steroid use by high-school students is acceptable, Mr. Hooten has certainly added to the outright media frenzy surrounding this issue by anchoring his cause to the death of his son. Most people will not publicly disagree with Don Hooten or his position(s) for fear of being perceived as insentitive to a young man's death. However, in private, most people wonder why Don Hooten was not directing the same level of attention to Taylor when he was still alive as he is now that Taylor is gone. In short, the citizens of Plano have grown weary of seeing Mr. Hooten's face in the newpaper as he points the finger of blame at everyone except himself.

While I agree that it is completely possible that a jock under the influence of steroids was aggressive toward other students, I know that it is most important to substantiate any claims made on the Wikipedia so that they have a basis in fact, not opinion or emotion. - Sorry to break it to you, but the edit controversy that I was referring to is long over. During the summer months, someone was trying to deface this article with unsubstantiated claims that Taylor was a Neo-Nazi and a racist. We have absolutely no proof that this is true. Eventually, the anonymous user making the changes left the Wikipedia. -Scm83x 22:26, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Added criticism of the claim Taylor Hooton's suicide was from AAS.
I just added a source of criticism of the claim Taylor Hooton's suicide was from AAS. Wikipedia needs to be unbias. This means explaining both sides of the argument, Not just simply one.Wikidudeman 01:01, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
