[edit] Hiking Tenaya Canyon
Disclaimer The official map provided by the Park Rangers at Yosemite contains the warning: "Hiking in Tenaya Canyon is dangerous and strongly discouraged".
From the top of the canyon, which may be glimpsed from the Tioga road to Tuolumne Meadows, the signature Half Dome of Yosemite dominates the canyon. Clouds Rest towers over the central canyon.
From the bottom of the canyon, which leads into Yosemite Valley, Mirror Lake and a short trail around it are quite well used even by day hikers.
[edit] Canyoneering
Starting from Tenaya Lake, there are three short rappels, newly bolted by the ASCA in 2003, along with at one mandatory swim at normal water levels. This canyoneering adventure is not appropriate for those without previous experience and competence with rappelling and canyon navigation. Competent climbers can often skip one or two of the rappels by downclimbing.
