The Apple Pan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Apple Pan is a restaurant on Pico Boulevard in West Los Angeles. It opened in 1947 and is locally famous for its hickory hamburgers and apple pies served with vanilla ice cream. It consists of a single, U-shaped counter surrounding the central food prep area. The paucity of stools results in a standing room only atmosphere during peak times. Closed on Mondays, The Apple Pan is open late (1am on Weekends) and is a popular destination for after hour burger afficionados.
As the burger joint is located a short drive away from 20th Century Fox studios, it is not uncommon to find celebrities noshing.
In 2005 one tradition of the The Apple Pan came to an end: paper cone cups. Harking back to the era in which it was founded, not only were sodas delivered to the customer in glass bottles, but a paper cone with ice placed in plastic holder was provided. Unfortunately, the supplier went out of business and no replacement could be found. As of 2007, the restaurant is back to using paper cone cups in plastic holders again.
