The LORD
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In various translations of the Christian Bible, the Hebrew "YHWH" (or tetragrammaton) is translated as "Lord." This usage follows the Jewish practice of substituting the spoken word "Adonai" (Hebrew: "lord") for "YHWH" when read aloud.
The name of the chief Canaanite god, Baal, also means "lord." The name of the Greek god Adonis derives from a Semitic root meaning "lord."
