The Skies of Pern is a science fiction novel in the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. First published in 2002.
Following The Dolphins of Pern, Pern has been freed of the threat of Thread permanently. New concerns arise, however. Led by Shankolin, people who are against the increased use of technology (labeled 'Abominators') begin committing acts of sabotage and destruction against those who use the advanced ideas and equipment. Also the past reliance of dragons and dragonriders upon Holds and Halls may no longer be valid, as dragonriders are becoming viewed as an unneccessary burden. Last, a comet passes through the Oort Cloud, bringing catastrophes and destruction to Pern on a level beyond that of Thread.
